Eurofins commences construction of a cutting-edge 8000m2 laboratory campus in Sydney, to be delivered in late 2021, in partnership with Schiavello Construction

Eurofins is in the construction phase of a new world-class state-of-the-art multidisciplinary testing campus in Western Sydney. The campus will consolidate the Environment, Pharmaceutical, Agroscience and Food Testing laboratories on a single site within specialized contained workspaces. The campus has been purpose designed and will accommodate up to 350 scientists and laboratory personnel, with staff to transfer from existing laboratories as well as being sourced from the local area. The new campus will provide capacity for operations to double in size in support of the strong growth Eurofins is experiencing in New South Wales, Australia, and the market requirement for high quality, high throughput, rapid turnaround testing. It will be the latest addition to Eurofins’ constantly expanding network of laboratory testing facilities in the Pacific region.

Eurofins has partnered with consultants Johnstaff and construction company Schiavello for this ambitious multi-million-dollar project. The site will undergo civil works and a comprehensive reconstruction, to allow for the creation of general office areas and state-of-the-art Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular and Biotechnology laboratory spaces, inclusive of extensive PC2 clean rooms, incubation rooms and cool rooms. The new building was also designed to significantly reduce the environmental impact of Eurofins’ operations and contribute to Eurofins’ target of zero net carbon emissions by 2025.

Comments from Sarah Thevenet, Regional Director Eurofins Australia New Zealand:

“We are very proud of this project. This campus is another demonstration of Eurofins’ commitment to delivering great Science and Technology solutions to the region. In Sydney, we are lucky to have a fantastic team of expert laboratory scientists from almost every discipline. To design this laboratory, they have brought together the best of their experience and knowledge and combined it with Eurofins global best-practice, lean and automation solutions. It will be a great resource for our clients and a great place to work for our staff.”

Comments from Alan Al-Refaei, Director, Schiavello Construction:

“This is a very exciting project for Schiavello, our teams and our network of highly specialised contractors. The diversity of laboratory spaces, as well as PC2 and approved arrangements areas present unique challenges. In order to deliver on an ambitious design and timeline, we have devised a rigorous multi-step sequence of construction, cleaning, commissioning and qualification tasks designed to meet or exceed the rigorous standards of Eurofins as well as NATA, APVMA, US-FDA and TGA certifications.”

Comments from Mayor Steve Christou, Cumberland City Council:

“Eurofins fits in perfectly with our ambitions to attract innovative businesses to build an economy that is sustainable and sophisticated.”
