Capabilities
As an island state, Tasmania offers unique cropping options including opium poppies, hops and pyrethrum as well as traditional temperate cropping options. Tasmania is globally respected for its cool-climate viticulture, growing some of Australia's premium and award-winning wines. Fondly known as the Apple Isle, the state has a range of orchard species which supply global markets and the growing craft cider industry.
Pasture is an integral part of the Tasmanian cropping system, with mixed needs in species and persistence due to environmental and crop rotation requirements. Due to the variability in rainfall across the state, our Launceston office offers our clients opportunities to test a range of grazing solutions in one local area. Due to government investment in water infrastructure, most cropping is grown under irrigation, securing clients reliability in crop establishment and assurance against climatic crop failure.
Geography and Climate
Launceston is centrally located in the north of the state, providing access to all available cropping options the state has to offer, as well as an easily accessible hub with regular direct flights to many of Australia's capital cities. As Australia's third oldest city, Launceston has a population of around 90K and is Tasmania's second largest city.
Launceston is a strategic hub for the state and hosts many state, national and international agri-businesses. Tasmania offers significant variability in soil and annual rainfall (<450 to >750 mm) within its agricultural zones. Due to reliable access to irrigation backed by biosecurity and a cooler temperate climate, the state offers clients a unique ability to bulk new seed lines with reduced pest threats and reliable water security.
